Just in case anyone else is running into an issue with ChromeOS 91.0.4472.147 running slow. My wife just hit me up about her Chromebook having issues. I checked and the CPU is almost always pegging with the CPU at 100% Utilization. It looks like this started with ChromeOS 91.0.4472.147 which it was just updated to. For reference she has an HP Chromebook Model 14-db0050nr. I tried disabling extensions and clearing cache and such with no luck. She really only uses this for Web browsing, so no apps installed or anything.

Here you can see the CPU utilization maxing out pretty consistently when I checked it. Plus its only showing my CPU at .80GHz?

You can also see it by using the command chrome://sys-internals in the browser.

I was hoping that it might be fixed in a new Beta version so updated to the Beta channel and tried the new version 92 with no luck.

Version 92.0.4515.82 (Official Build) beta (64-bit)

At this point I am at a loss and hope they might have a fix soon. If anyone else is having this issue with ChromeOS 91.0.4472.147 Running Slow you are not alone. I just reported it as an issue and hope they can resolve it quickly. Otherwise I may be doing some computer shopping soon for her, but she loves her little Chromebook.

If I find a solution I will update the post and add it here.

UPDATE: Looks like someone already reported it as a bug here 1226037 – Terrible Performance on Grunt Device After 91.0.4472.147 Update – chromium

Possible fix

UPDATE 2: I was playing around and after powering off my chromebook a few times and it did not seem to help, But when I tried holding down the power button for about a full minute to drain power off the motherboard (Chromebook was not plugged in) it seems much better now. Also after powering it back up after holding down the button I now see when I run diagnostics that the CPU core is no longer stuck at .80Ghz and the Chromebook is much snappier and working better. There is still a problem as I see it still going to 100% CPU usage, but it is improved and I can actually use it now with less frustration.

Also It looks like I am on a new Beta version 92.13982.0 so that might also have helped. Not sure when that was updated from the original post here. The previous Beta version was showing the same slowdown symptoms before this. So not 100% sure which one of these helped. Good luck!

I love my LG 34UM68-P ultrawide screen monitor. But after removing the power from the back to move it off my desk without powering off the monitor first, I was sad to find my LG 34UM68-P Wont power on. I was so disappointed as it was also out of warranty. I am glad to say it is finally fixed.

The problem: LG 34UM68-P Wont power on.

(This post is for entertainment purposes only, If you do not know what you are doing you should have a professional fix your monitor as you could injure yourself or damage your property. )

Not sure why, but for some reason after removing the power without powering it off from the monitor (I just unplugged it from the back) My LG 34UM68-P Wont power on. The little purple light still glows at the bottom of the monitor, but otherwise it is dead. It was disappointing as I love this monitor and use it everyday for fun and work. I even tried swapping it out with a Samsung 34 inch Ultrawide that had higher resolution, but it just did not look as good to me. I like the IPS panel of the LG over the VA panel of the Samsung. For the me 2560×1080 resolution of the LG 34UM68-P is perfect. Especially when paired with another 27inch LCD at 1920×1080. For me its a perfect setup for my desk.

Ok, back to the issue.

Since I didn’t like my new replacement monitor I decided to try fixing the LG 34UM68-P. I took the stand off, then removed the back panel. Once I looked inside I figured the problem would be the main board a EAX66876002 (1.0) or the power button board which looks like the number was EAX65469603 (It was hard to read as it was so small). So first I took some closeup pictures and zoomed in and looked for broken solder joints, or issues. I found nothing that looks bad. The capacitors also visibly looked fine.

Quick inspection inside the LG 34UM68-P

Finally after not finding anything I figured I would have to get a new main board and try it out. Looking on the internet I could not find the EAX66876002 for sale. I did find some EAX66876001 for sale but looking at the picture, it was missing one of the connectors I needed. Not sure what that model is for.

Solution

The fix for this wasn’t free. What I ended up doing was finding a broken LG 34UM68-P on eBay with a cracked screen and buying it for $50 dollars. I swapped out the mainboard first and that fixed the issue. Snapped the back cover back on and I was good to go. The monitor is working perfect again. I do count myself lucky for being able to find a broken monitor to grab a mainboard from. Here is a picture of me about to swap it out.

Side note: <del>I did read somewhere that the LG 29UM68-P board would also work but I can not verify that.</del> I was just informed by someone who saw this that the LG 29UM68-P version of the board is missing half of the power circuit for the LCD backlight, So do not get that version if you have the LG 34UM68-P (Thanks for the heads up! Super appreciated!). <del>But I was keeping an eye out for one of those as well and was going to investigate further if I found one.</del> Anyways glad my LG 34UM68-P monitor not powering on issue is finally fixed.

For reference here is the link to the LG website for the manual and specs.

The Herman Miller Aeron Forward Tilt can be a little hard to engage and is not very intuitive if you have not used it before. Here is how to engage it if you have this option on your Herman Miller Aeron chair.

Not all Herman Miller Aeron’s come with the Forward Tilt option. First you will want to make sure you have that option available. To verify you should see two levers on the left side of the chair (As you are sitting in it). The lever towards the front of the chair is the forward tilt lever.

How to operate Herman Miller Aeron Forward Tilt.

First recline in your Herman Miller Aeron chair with both Levers the Recline and Forward tilt pushed to the bottom. (as in the picture above.)

While reclined in your chair. The Aeron Forward Tilt lever should be able to be pulled up to the stopping point as in the picture below.

3. With the forward tilt lever up, lean forward and your chair will now tilt forward. You will notice it goes forward beyond what it did with the lever down.

4. If you want to lock your Aeron in the forward tilt position. Pull up on the recline lever all the way to the top as in the picture below. Both The forward tilt and Recline levers are now at the top. Now you are locked in the forward tilt position.

Summary

I find I like the locked in Forward Tilt position when I am using my computer for an extended period of time and need to stay focused. It seems to be more productive for me than sitting back in a more relaxed position. I tend to alternate in and out of it throughout the day.

If your having issues with your Aeron not reclining this blog article I wrote about fixing mine may come in handy. Herman Miller Aeron tilt fix.

I ran into an issue a few weeks ago in that my Dyson DC14 Canister wont latch on my DC14 vacuum. At first I thought it was an issue with the canister itself. But after taking off the cover for the latch release I found the the plastic was broken that covered the pivot point.

DISCLAIMER: This is not an instructional post. I am not a professional and this is just how I fixed my Dyson. This may or may not be safe. Your issue may be different. If you do not know what you are doing hire a professional. I am not responsible if you injure/kill yourself or damage your property. Please follow you owners manual and all safety instructions. This post is for entertainment purposes only.

The problem : Dyson canister wont latch.

My issue was the Dyson DC14 canister would not latch unless i pulled it up a little. It was almost like the canister was sitting to low. At first I thought I might have lost a piece on the bottom of the canister to hold it up. I verified everything was intact on the bottom of the canister.

Since I found that my canister looked to be ok, I went ahead and removed the two T-15 screws from the back for the cover that goes over the latch assembly. (Yes I first made sure the Dyson Vacuum was unplugged.) This is where I found my issue, you can see the plastic holding the latch button in place at the pivot point is broken on each side. This was causing the latch to pop out and not latch correctly.

I was able to push it back into place and my Dyson DC14 canister would latch again. But I was afraid this would keep happening. At this point I was trying to think of my options to fix it the cheapest way possible.

SIDE NOTE:

After reading up on the web, I found that one of the problems you can have with the Dyson canister not latching was the canister itself. It has a plastic lip that can break on the canister. The picture below shows where to check. This was NOT my issue, but here is where the canister lip can break in case you are having this problem with your Dyson.

The fix

The correct way to fix this would probably be to buy a new handle if they sell them, but I did not want to pay much to fix it. (Yes, I’m thrifty). One idea was to drill a couple holes in the handle at the top and bottom of hinge and use some bailing type wire to hold it in place. But I was not sure if the plastic would handle that.

A second idea was to use something to keep pressure against the hinge area to keep them from popping out. At first I was going to try to take some measurements and 3d print a couple blocks to pop in. Then I remembered I had some JBweld plastic weld from a few years ago in one of my cabinets. I decided to give this stuff a try. It is like silly putty that hardens after you mix the two putty’s together.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-1856" src="https://myrandomtechblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/dysonDC14latchJBweld-1024x634.jpg" alt="JB weld to fix my Dyson canister wont latch issue.
I went ahead and mixed some of the two tubes together and used it on the vacuum. Then I pressed it into the holes over the hinge. Here is a picture. It was a little trial and error to see how much putty to use and still make the cover fit. Then once I had the cover on I would press the latch button every once in a while to make sure it didn’t seize the button in place. I was not sure if this would work, but decided to give it a try.

How did it turn out?

Yes it did work. I have used the Dyson a few times over the last 2 weeks and the latch is working fine. One issue I noticed was that it seems to have glued that cover in place. In hindsight I should have probably removed the cover after getting everything fitted and just let the putty harden in place without the cover. Then put the cover back on. Oh well, live and learn. The good thing is I can vacuum again. If it stops latching I will try to remove the cover with a little more force. But I didn’t want to break the cover plate as it is working for me. Here is a current picture, it is latching just fine now. It was a quick fix for me and just cost me some old putty I already had.
